Android Voalte One 3.6.3 MDM process change.
September 12, 2018
Purpose.
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform all hospital leaders and staff responsible for the support of devices running Voalte One™ about Google’s new required permission prompts that affect mobile device management (MDM) processes and Android devices that have Voalte One 3.6.3.
Impact.
With the release of Android Voalte One 3.6.3, Voalte has increased the target API level to meet the new Google requirement. Increasing the target API level now requires users to grant permissions when the application is first launched.
Prior to Voalte One 3.6.3, Android devices granted certain permissions by default, such as enabling microphone access for phone calls, which allowed Voalte One to function correctly.
For Android Voalte One 3.6.3 and above, users will be prompted to grant these permissions when the app is launched. With Voalte Connect™ or another MDM application, hospitals can grant permissions for devices running Android Marshmallow that are enrolled into Android Enterprise.
Note: Devices running Android Lollipop are not affected by the additional prompts when running Voalte One 3.6.3. iOS device prompt behavior did not change with Voalte One 3.6.3.
Next steps.
Voalte Connect customers:
Starting September 24, 2018, Voalte will update Voalte Connect to automatically grant permissions for any Android managed application on devices running Android Marshmallow or higher. Please reach out to the Voalte Support team prior to September 24, 2018 if you have additional questions or concerns.
Customers without Voalte Connect:
In order to ensure a smooth upgrade to Voalte One 3.6.3, please configure your MDM environment so permissions are granted automatically. Please work with your MDM administrator to verify permissions are set up correctly.
Please contact the Voalte Support team at [email protected] for any questions.
