Getting access to Android Voalte One

Starting with Voalte One 3.7, Voalte will be using Managed Google Play to distribute the application. Voalte will no longer be providing the APK for the application to customers using devices that have the ability to be set up with Android Enterprise (MC40 does not support Android Enterprise). Voalte will be posting a unique app listing for each major release that customers will have to request access to. The instructions below outline what information is needed for Voalte and how to access the application.

Why Voalte moved to a new distribution method.

Using Managed Google Play gives Voalte the ability to push app configurations through the MDM (for example, the server configuration introduced in 3.7). This is one of many potential features that Google will only allow for applications distributed with Managed Google Play. This method of distribution aligns with Apple's Volume Purchase Program (VPP), which has also resulted in certain VPP-only features. By moving our customers over to Managed Google Play for Voalte One now, we are setting up the customer's deployment for future features provided by Google.

Lastly, using Managed Google Play for distribution is a safer method as Google scans every application for vulnerabilities prior to release.

How this affects upgrades for all device types.

Regardless of device type (MC40 or TC51), customers moving to 3.7 and above must remove any older Voalte One applications prior to installing the new Voalte One. Failure to do so will result in the application not being updated correctly.

For best results, Voalte suggests powering on devices prior to the application removal and installation in order to ensure a smooth upgrade.

Voalte One 3.7 (and every major release after that) will be using a new app ID. Please update your MDM settings (example: Secure Launcher Profile) accordingly when upgrading. You will also need to update and re-push any battery optimization profiles for Voalte One.

Note for TC51: Beginning with Voalte One 3.6.3, it is best practice to use a Permissions profile in order to accept Voalte One permissions through the MDM. More details on this can be found on this help article: /en/knowledge/article/portal/360015854011

Suggested steps for upgrading

1- Install the new application prior to cutover (ensure it is hidden from Secure Launcher). Voalte suggests doing this about one week before the application upgrade.
2- When ready to upgrade, uninstall the older application.
3- Ten minutes after uninstalling the older application, update Secure Launcher to hide the older application and unhide the new application. Voalte does not recommend two active Voalte applications on the device at the same time. This will cause issues for the end user.
4- Push battery optimization profile for the new application.
