Getting access to iOS Voalte One

Every time a customer needs access to a major release of Voalte (3.6, 3.7 etc), they need to follow the processes outlined below. Customers looking for a minor release should not have to go through these steps since the major release is already in their MDM.

Note: Customers should not be using the public app store version of Voalte One.

Apple is now allowing custom B2B apps to be accessible through an Apple School Manager account in addition to Apple Business Manager. The screenshots below are specific to Apple Business Manager.

Requesting Access

  1. For customers who are new to the Apple Business Manager, they must follow the instructions on the Select and buy content page of the help guide for Business Manager (specifically the "Enable custom apps" section).
  2. Provide Voalte with customer ID and org name (located under Settings → Enrollment Information).
    1. The same information is required if using Apple School Manager.

Purchasing licenses once access is requested

  1. Navigate to Custom Apps on the left side of the Business Manager (under Content)
    1. If "Custom Apps" is not available, the customer needs to complete the first step listed above.
  2. Locate and select Voalte One application
    1. License Type: Managed
    2. Assign to: Choose location associated with the account provided to Voalte for access.
    3. Quantity: Enter in the quantity (best practice is to order a lot more than needed so this step doesn't have to be repeated as customer expands).
    4. Click "Get".
  3. At this point, licenses should sync with MDM is the token exchange was completed.

If customer manages their own MDM, they may notice that the app information is blank. Please reference this Zendesk article for the information they need.

Common Issues

  • I don't see the Voalte app on ABM.
    • Verify customer "enabled" custom apps.
    • Verify customer has the correct role type to manage content in ABM.
  • I see custom apps, but the Voalte app isn't there.
    • The app may have been assigned with their legacy VPP account prior to upgrading/connecting to ABM. Have the customer sign into legacy portal to purchase more licenses of older app (if needed).
  • I'm not sure if I purchased the correct app ID.
    • All B2B apps will appear under the Custom Apps tab once you've been given access. If you are getting the app from the Apps & Books tab, it is the incorrect app ID. Naming conventions for app IDs in B2B will be "Voalte One 3.x" where the X is the major release number.
