There are two steps to pushing a new version of Voalte- adding the new app to the environment and pushing it to the phones. Adding the app will be the same, but how we push it to the phones will depend on whether the Restrictions Profile is set to Hide Apps or Show Apps- if Show Apps is selected then the profile will only show apps that have been added to the list and will hide everything else; if Hide Apps is selected then the phone will hide the specified apps and show everything else.
At this time Voalte recommends using Show Apps for the simplicity of pre-staging the new app without changing the Restrictions profile until go-live.
Adding App to MDM
- After Site MDM Upgrade Sync the hospital will provide the Apple ID for their VPP account to the Voalte PM and MDM resource
- Voalte will release the 3.y Bundle ID for purchase to that account
- Hospital will purchase the required number of licenses
- My recommendation is to add a 0 to the end of however many licenses are required- they are free, so it is better to have too many and not have to update the allotment down the line
- MDM Admin will sync the VPP token in the MDM:
- Navigate to the org with the VPP token
- Navigate to Apps & Books->Applications->Native->Purchased. The app will show as follows. Click where it says "Unknown"
If Restrictions Profile set to "Show Apps"
Pre Go-Live- Assign App to all Phones
- Navigate to the Org level where the VPP token lives
- Navigate to Apps & Books->Applications->Native→Purchased
- Click on the app name for the new Voalte One 3.y, then the blue "Enable Device Assignment" button
- Click "Save & Assign", then "Add Assignment"
- Click "Add Assignment" on the next page
- Select the current Production Voalte One Assignment Group, and assign a necessary number of licenses to it
- Enable "Make app MDM Managed if User installed"
- Save & Publish to push the new Voalte One 3.y application to all phones, but hidden
During Go-Live
- Navigate to the Org level where the VPP token lives
- Navigate to Devices→ Profiles & Resources→Profiles, find the Restrictions profile, click Edit
- Navigate down to Show Apps
- Remove the old Voalte One 3.x
- Save & Publish
- Wait 2-5 minutes
- Navigate to Apps & Books->Applications→Native→Purchased
- Click on the app name for the old Voalte One 3.x, Save & Assign
- Click on the radio button for all assignments, then delete, Save & Publish to remove the old Voalte One 3.x app from all phones
- Navigate to Apps & Books->Applications→Application Settings→App Removal Log
- If you see the Voalte app set to "Held for Approval" then select the radio button and click "Release to Device"- this releases the bulk removal command to all of the devices to uninstall the old application. The old application MUST be uninstalled prior to Showing the new app.
- Wait 2-5 minutes
- Go to Devices→Profiles & Resources→Profiles, find the Restrictions profile
- Navigate down to Show Apps
- Add the new Voalte One 3.y (if the app itself isn't populating in the list then add via Bundle ID: com.voalte.platform.ios.store.one.3y)
- Save & Publish
If Restrictions Profile set to "Hide Apps"

- Navigate to Devices→Profiles & Resources→Profiles, find the Restrictions profile

With the addition of the backward compatibility for Server/App, more sites are looking to roll out a slow upgrade per device.
Create a new Tag
- Navigate to the Child Org, Groups & Settings→All Settings→ Devices and Users→ Advanced→ Tags, Add Tag, name it "Voalte One 3.y Tag" where Y is the version of Voalte you are upgrading to.
