Pulling logs from iOS devices

Story/Description: Below is the process for pulling Device and Application logs from iOS devices for troubleshooting

Device Logs:

  1. Plug the iPhone into your computer using the appropriate cable and select "Trust this computer" when prompted.

  2. Open iTunes, and click the iPhone icon (circled in red below).

    1. If prompted, choose to "Set up as new iPhone" and hit continue. This should begin syncing the device to your workstation.

    2. Otherwise, click the "Sync" button at the bottom right of the window.

  3. Once the device has finished syncing, open "Finder." (If using a Windows machine, skip steps 4-7 and follow the section titled "Windows Instructions", then continue with step 8.)

  4. With Finder open, click on the "Go" button on the menu bar at the top of your screen.

  5. Then click on the "Go To Folder..." link in the dropdown menu.

  6. In the "Go To Folder" dialog box that opens, enter the following address exactly as shown: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice

  7. Once you've navigated to the MobileDevice folder, you will need to locate the folder with the same name as the device you synced in iTunes. In the example above, the folder would be called "iPhone".

    Windows Instructions:

    1. Open "Windows Explorer".

    2. Copy and paste the following into the address bar and press the Enter key:
      %APPDATA%\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\

    3. Select the folder that has the same name as the device that was Synced with iTunes earlier.

  8. The Crash, WiFi, and Power logs are all located in this folder. Copy the entire folder to your desktop.

  9. Before you can attach the folder to a ticket, you will need to compress it. You can compress the folder by right-clicking on it, and selecting the "Compress" link in the dropdown menu that opens.

Application Logs:

  1. Follow steps (1) and (2) from the Device Logs section above.
  2. Navigate to "File Sharing" through the menu on the left of the window.

  3. Choose the "Voalte One" (or "Voalte Me") app from the list, and drag the files from the window on the right to your desktop.

  4. Compress the files into one folder and attach to your Zendesk ticket.
