TC51 - Provisioning using QR Code generated enrollment (without pictures)

The following page is a step by step process of how to provision TC51-HC devices running Android Nougat.

Getting started.

The following items are needed before you can start provisioning your devices.

  • Devices running Android Nougat
  • Fully-charged batteries
  • Access to a pre-prepared AirWatch Environment
  • The following codes:
    • DO enrollment QR code – Each hospital has a different QR code based on your AirWatch credentials.
    • StageNow barcode – There is one uniform StageNow barcode for every hospital (provided in this document) unless there are specific settings that must be customized. If you have custom settings, you must make your own StageNow barcode.
    • Wi-Fi QR Code(optional) – If you are provisioning multiple phones or the password is long, you can make a barcode to scan instead of typing in the password.

Create a Device Owner enrollment QR code.

A QR code enrolls you into Device Owner (DO) mode leveraging Android for Work.  After scanning the QR code, the device will download the latest AirWatch agent application and enroll you into AirWatch.

Generate a StageNow barcode.

There are two ways to generate a StageNow barcode for use with provisioning.

If you want the following generic provisioning settings, use the StageNow barcode provided in this document.

This barcode configures the following:

  • Wi-Fi to "Always ON”
  • NFC (Near-Field Communication) to "OFF"
  • Touch Panel Mode to "Finger and Stylus"
  • Screen locking to "Prohibited”
  • Battery optimization to "Voalte One Do Not Optimize"
  • Volume buttons Do Not Disturb mode to “Disabled”
  • Zebra Volume Control- sound profile settings

Generate a Wi-Fi password QR Code.

To generate a Wi-Fi password barcode for the Wi-Fi used during provisioning:

  1. Make a QR Code by using a barcode generator such as this one: https://barcode.tec-it.com/en/MobileQR
  2. Type your Wi-Fi password into the Data field and click Refresh.
  3. Click Download to save your QR Code to your computer. This QR Code will be used during provisioning to input the Wi-Fi password.

Prepare devices.

Complete the following to make sure your devices are ready for provisioning.

  • Remove devices from packaging and insert charged batteries.
  • Press the power button (in the top right corner) to wake the screen.

Step 1 – Enroll in DO Mode and AirWatch.

The following steps will walk you through enrolling into DO mode and AirWatch using the Agent application.

  1. Tap the bottom right part of the TC51 Welcome screen six times and tap Next. Do not tap the yellow Let’s Go button.

2. Select and log in to the Wi-Fi you will use for provisioning. You can either make a Wi-Fi password QR Code mentioned in the Generate a Wi-Fi password QR Code section, or manually type the password and tap Connect. A QR reader installs.

3. Once the QR reader is installed, scan the DO enrollment QR code you made in the Create a Device Owner enrollment QR code section and tap OK. This QR code enrolls you into DO mode/Android for Work and AirWatch and launches the Agent application.

You will see applications downloading in top left corner of the Agent application. If it is taking a while, tap the Sync button in the Agent application periodically. Once complete, you will be taken to the Launcher screen.

Note: If Voalte One opens, tap the soft back button to return the Launcher screen.

      4. From the Launcher screen, tap Continue>Launcher>Always. The Launcher Home screen appears.

5. Exit Launcher by tapping the arrow in the top right. Tap Admin, enter your password, tap Exit, and tap OK.

Step 2 – Configure the device settings.

Configure the following settings manually from your device in Settings.

  1. Make sure Voalte One is installed on your device. If not, go into the Agent application and click Sync.

2. Make sure you are connected to your hospital’s production Wi-Fi, and forget the provisioning Wi-Fi if needed. Tap the soft back button to return to the Settings screen.

3. Scroll down and tap Display, turn off Adaptive brightness, and tap the soft back button to return to the Settings screen.

4. Scroll down and tap Sound, Other sounds, and make sure Secure locking sounds, Touch sounds, and Vibrate on tap are turned off. Ensure Charging sounds are on. Tap the soft back button to return to the Settings screen.

5. Scroll down and tap Wake-up Sources and select all Wake-up Sources (SCAN, RIGHT_TRIGGER_1, LEFT_TRIGGER_2, REAR_BUTTON). Then tap the soft back button.

6. Scroll down and tap Location. Disable Location and tap the soft back button.

7. Scroll down and tap Languages & Input>Virtual keyboard>Google keyboard>Preferences.

8. Enable Long press for symbols and disable Vibrate on keypress.

9. Tap the soft back button, tap Advanced, and turn off Share usage statistics and Share snippets.

10. Tap the soft button twice, tap Manage keyboards, and turn off Google voice typing. Tap the soft back button.

11. Scroll down and tap Date & time and make sure you have the correct Time Zone for your hospital. Tap the soft back button to exit the Settings application.

Step 3 – Configure the DataWedge settings.

The following settings will be configured in the DataWedge application to disable the phone’s barcode scanner from working unless you are in an application that utilizes it. This ensures the scanner will not go off by accidentally pressing one of the trigger buttons.

  1. Swipe up to see apps, tap the DataWedge application, tap Profile0, and uncheck Barcode input: Enabled.

2. Hit the soft back button three times to exit the application.

Step 4 – Scan the StageNow barcode.

The following steps involve scanning the provided StageNow barcode to decrease the amount of settings that need to be manually changed.

  1. Open the StageNow application, press down on the trigger buttons of the device and scan the barcode below. Tap exit when finished, or rescan the barcode if presented with an error message.

Step 5 – Complete the provisioning.

The following steps involve closing out all open applications, returning to Launcher, and powering the device off.

  1. Tap the soft multitask (square) button, scroll to the top, and tap Clear all.

2. Tap Launcher, tap Continue, and tap Always.

3. Power off the device.
